Hi.

Welcome to Lattes, Life & Luggage! Iā€™m Christine and I share my adventures traveling and navigating this crazy thing we call life.

A Piece Of Serenity In Galena

A Piece Of Serenity In Galena

In the middle of a forest and a view away from the Mississippi River lies a quaint bed and breakfast that will have you unplugging whether you planned to or not. Nature and I don't always agree, it's a relatively known fact. But it's impossible to not be floored by the beauty of this property. Popular for weddings and romantic getaways, Goldmoor Inn is tucked away outside of downtown Galena. The property houses 13 incredible suites, 3 country cottages and 2 log cabins. Owned by one of the most hospitable couples I've had the pleasure to meet, this property is nothing short of a luxurious getaway far from the real world. Whether it is or is not what you had expected, it's impossible not to be completely and beyond satisfied with your visit.

The Property
Goldmoor may be a bed and breakfast but the property and suites are quite large. The property itself has an impressive lawn that can be used for events, most notably weddings, as well as a gazebo great for dinner parties and a patio with cafe tables and chairs. The property is surrounded by forest area on three sides. The fourth is an overlook straight to the Mississippi River that is absolutely gorgeous. The sunsets are breathtaking and if you're an early riser, the sunrises are incredible as well. There is honestly no bad view at Goldmoor Inn.

The Visit
Upon arriving, I was greeted at the front desk by a friendly receptionist. She gave me a little introduction to the property and what came with my stay including an in-room gourmet breakfast that practically deserves its own post. The property is located just a few miles outside of downtown Galena making it a great location in terms of accessibility. The area itself has a horse stable next door and another resort is located two minutes away that offers riverboat tours, skiing in the wintertime, alpine sleds, zip lining and more. Vineyards and wineries are a short drive away as well as breweries. Goldmoor itself provides a very tranquil, relaxed experience. It's like having a spa day without actually going to the spa. The natural environment the property is tucked into really reduces stress and anxiety leaving you feel much lighter than when you arrived.

The Room
I stayed in the English Garden Suite which is located right off the front entrance with access from both inside the inn and from the outside. I was immediately captured by the size of the room. Pictures honestly don't do it justice because you can't really show immensity in a photo. I've lived in smaller studio apartments than the size of this suite. Starting at $325 per night, Goldmoor is not for the penny pincher but it's definitely worth every cent. The room accommodations alone are worthy of the price tag, the service and extras that are thrown in are just a plus.  If that's not enough, the property itself is so beautiful you might as well have stepped into a painting.

Room accommodations include a huge jacuzzi tub, a full service bathroom complete with a towel warmer, a kitchenette stocked with coffee mugs, coffee and the fixings, a mini-fridge, microwave, sink and tableware. Maid service is provided every day unless otherwise requested and they do a great job. How do I know? I happened to be working in the room as they cleaned. Each suite, cottage and log cabin includes a king-sized bed which is always a treat for me since I've never owned anything but a twin. My favorite part of the room, however, was the fireplace and cozy sitting area. Goldmoor is beautiful in the summertime but I can't imagine how amazing it would be to see this property in the winter through the window while you're cuddled up in front of a fireplace with a cup of hot cocoa.

Amenities
Possibly my favorite service available at the inn is the gourmet in-room breakfast that comes with your stay. If you actually like to socialize with other human beings in the morning, you're welcome to have your breakfast in the dining room but I prefer staying in my pajamas as long as possible. There is a small dining area set up in front of the window looking over the grounds in the English Garden Suite which is a nice, comfortable spot to have breakfast and, if you're a workaholic like me, get some work done. There is a spa available on-site with a variety of services available from massages to facials. Couple massages are available as well as solo. The restaurant provides a delicious selection of seasonal meals and the wine list is impressive. Of course, with wineries and vineyards for neighbors you wouldn't expect anything less.

Overall Experience and Notes
It's hard to say anything negative about Goldmoor Inn. I toured the grounds and saw a few of the other suites as well as one of the cottages and the quality of the property is all over. You can tell that the owners of this property love it and want it to thrive not to mention they generally care about their guests' experience. The staff is friendly but not overbearing. There is plenty to do around the area if you want to enjoy activities and go into town but the property is just fine on its own if you want to completely unwind and unplug.  I would not recommend this property for kids and families but it's great for a romantic getaway, business trip, solo travel or even a girls' getaway if you don't mind sharing a bed with your best friend. It's also a great spot for celebrations whether it's a wedding, anniversary, etc.

Goldmoor Inn accepts reservations both online and via phone. Rooms start around $325 per night. With fall coming up, the property is about to be at it's peak. I'll be in the area for a family event in a few weeks so I cannot wait to stop by and see what the property looks like once the leaves start changing. I might snap a few pictures just to have them for myself!
