Dining out this summer was a trend and one of the many great restaurants I had the pleasure of visiting was Seasons52 in River North. They recently brought a new chef on to their team who brings plenty of talent with him. After spending most of his culinary career in Europe, Executive Chef Partner Brad Froelich shares his passion for Mediterranean cooking and creative culinary exploration with seasonal ingredients. I was able to taste quite a few of the summer menu items including dessert and cocktails that you just have to try the next time you're in the area. Everything was fresh and packed with flavor in a delicate way. It may have been my first time at Seasons52 but it certainly won't be my last.
Grilled Garlic Pesto Chicken Flatbread with fresh mozzarella cheese, balsamic onions, roasted red peppers and arugula - in the happy hour event preceding dinner, we were treated to a variety of flatbreads currently on the menu including this divine chicken and garlic pesto number. All flatbreads are available with a gluten-free crust so everyone should be able to enjoy at least one of these. Other flatbreads we sampled included the Salumi Piccante with dry-cured artisan sausage, roasted Roma tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and basil pesto which was quite honestly my favorite and also the Lobster & Fresh Mozzarella with roasted sweet peppers, slivered scallion and lobster sour cream.
Fresh Summer Truffle Risotto - This dish was arguably my favorite of the night. As soon as we arrived to our table, we were greeted with a piping hot bowl of risotto, one of my favorite dishes to eat (not to make). It was perfectly creamy and decadent. My stomach growls just thinking about it. The truffles were a great touch and added elegance in the presentation while rounding out the flavors perfectly.
Ahi Tuna Tartare layered with wasabi-avocado mousse, tropical salsa and Hawaiian sea salt crisps - Let me be honest, raw fish is not my first choice...ever. My friend really wanted to try this though and I went along because what is dining out for if not to try things out of your comfort zone. I was surprisingly in love with this dish. First of all, the presentation was incredible. Second, the toasted chips were addictive. The tartare itself was very light and fresh making it perfect for a summer appetizer and the wasabi wasn't overpowering in the slightest. I would definitely order this again.
Wild Alaskan Copper River Salmon with sweet corn risotto, toybox tomatoes and sugar snap peas - Light and flaky salmon is the perfect entree for a hot and humid summer night. This was my friend's entree of choice and not only did she love it but I enjoyed the bite I had a taste of. The risotto was fantastic. Me eating risotto at Seasons52 might become a habit. I loved the bright veggies. The way Chef Froelich includes seasonal produce with his dishes is flawless and natural. You wouldn't expect anything else to come with the dish because it just pairs so well.
Oak Grilled Filet Mignon with sugar snap peas, mushrooms, toybox tomatoes, Yukon mash and red wine sauce - This was my entree of choice and man do I wish this was dinner every night. Nothing beats a perfectly cooked steak. Even better? A perfectly cooked filet mignon, my absolute favorite cut of steak. The meat was tender and juicy and paired beautifully with the red wine sauce. The Yukon mash must have been made for my love of potatoes. If you are a meat and potatoes kind of person, this dish is for you.
Skillet of Roasted Corn with crispy bacon, caramelized onion and Parmesan cheese - My corn craving was pretty spot on the night we dined at Seasons52, so was my bacon craving to be honest. This side is a great accompaniment for many dishes. It was really, really good and I will definitely order it again when I return.
Strawberry Basil Infusion Cocktail: Strawberry-Infused Prairie Organic Vodka, Agave Nectar & Fresh Basil - The vodka is infused with strawberries. It really doesn't get much better than that. This was my favorite cocktail probably of the summer. The combination of sweet strawberries and earthy basil was mind-blowing. You bet you're bottom dollar I'm going to attempt to recreate this at home.
Meyer Lemonade Cocktail: Grey Goose L'Orange, Meyer Lemon, Pineapple Juice and Agave Nectar - This was another great cocktail. It's much more tart and citrusy, obviously. This is refreshing, perfect for a summer day.
Dessert - I don't have specific details on dessert but here's what I can tell you. When it was that time, our waitress brought us a very large flight of desserts to try. There were so many that choosing felt like the hardest decision on the planet. Honestly, I wanted to try them all but knew I wouldn't even make it a quarter of the way through. The ones we landed on were Tiramisu and Key Lime Pie. They were both delicious but if I had to choose a favorite, the tiramisu definitely takes the cake...no pun intended.
Seasons52 is located at 55 East Grand Avenue in River North right on the opposite corner of Nordstrom. They have a Happy Hour menu available Monday through Friday from 4-6:30pm which also includes small plates. Their summer menu probably won't be around much longer with fall right around the corner so make sure to stop in to try one of their fabulous dishes. Regardless of the time of year, Seasons52 has a great menu that is sure to please any type of diner.
